Lets dive in to understand the management of Parkinson's Disease
25-4-2025
"A male patient, 64 years old, with a history of Parkinson's disease for 3 years, has been experiencing multiple difficulties. He is unable to write and faces challenges with speech and walking, often finding himself imbalanced. Additionally, he has expressed anxiety regarding eating quickly without properly chewing and has been struggling with depression. He also has a medical history of hypothyroidism, treated with allopathic medicine since 1992, and has noted some pedal edema in the right ankle joint, along with a history of pulmonary Koch's disease.
An MRI revealed generalized cerebral atrophy and ischemic changes primarily in the frontal and left temporal lobes.
Following this, a treatment plan was devised, including 28 days of panchakarma treatment combined with oral medications.
The medications prescribed were:
- Kulathlasunaerandadi kashyam (morning)
- Dhanwantharam kashyam (evening)
- Dhanwantharam 101 capsules (one twice daily)
- Atmagupta choornam (2.5 grams twice daily with milk)
- Indukantham ghritam, combined with rudrakshadi choornam and suvarnmuktadi gulika (one at bedtime)
The panchakarma treatments included:
- Taildhara and abhyangam for 7 days
- Pichu and taildhara for 7 days
- Sneha Vasthi with Dhanwantharam Tailam (4 sessions)
- Niruha vasthi with dwipanchmooladi vasthi (3 sessions)
To address the speech difficulties, frequent applications of rasana lepa mixed with honey was recommended on tongue. Anu tailam was also given for nasyam.
Post the initial 28 days of panchakarma, the patient continued treatment for an additional 6 months, during which oral medicines remain same ,ksheerbala tailam was advised for head massage, and balashwagandhadi tailam for body massage.
**Improvements observed after treatment included:**
- Enhanced writing ability - Improved speech clarity - Better balance while walking - Reduced anxiety around meals - Alleviation of depressive symptoms Overall, the treatment plan appears to have positively influenced the patient's condition.
